Annalise

I am an artist and multidisciplinary educator holding six years of experience working with learners of all ages in a variety of educational settings in the US and abroad. My philosophy of education is student-centered and informed by culturally-responsive and social emotional learning (SEL)-informed practices. Empowering students is my goal and through attentive and active engagement and encouragement, I challenge and support my students to learn, excel and meet their personal and educational goals.

I have taught ESL and Art with students of all levels and abilities, ages 3-18, in both traditional and alternative schools. Individualized styles of engagement and differentiated learning are some of the components of my teaching style and practice. I believe it is crucially important to meet the student where they are, get to know their strengths, learning style(s), and areas for improvement, and work together to create a comfortable and positive learning environment. It is important to me to make their learning as relevant to them as possible and build a relationship founded on respect, trust, and understanding. Creativity curiosity, and strong work ethic are characteristics I try to encourage in my teaching and mentoring.

In my tutoring experience, I have tutored young children as well as adolescents and adults, in English, Language Arts, Global Arts and Culture, and college-level academic writing. Detail to tone, flow of diction, as well as grammar and sentence structure are some of my strengths in academic writing and editing. I love working with students on their writing, and try to make this more fun through finding the relationships between the subject and their lives. I believe that excellence in their academic performance is interdependent with their personal relationship to the learning objective and/or subject area.
