About ACT

ACT (American College Testing)

The ACT should not frighten you — you can achieve a truly competitive score. Our examination experts will guide students along the successful path. Our students learn vocabulary and math, grammar and writing, traps and tricks, so that they conquer their fears and score higher than they ever have. Each tutoring session will be designed to meet your specific needs. We have all of the necessary preparatory material so that students will feel equipped to study effectively. Most importantly we will be using the ideal study tool—real ACTs. Our tutors will review both correct and missed questions with the student, explaining each clearly. We believe that knowing the reason for a correct answer is as effective as knowing why a question was incorrect. All study programs will be laid out by your selected tutor on a calendar, as well as a day-to-day study schedule. We counsel students on the important, frequently overlooked details and issues in order to best manage their time, like when to use a calculator, prior-night planning, and what to do the morning of test day.

Breakdown

The exam is scored on a scale from 1-36 per section and your final score is an average of the four sections: Grammar and Usage, Math (with calculator), Reading, Science Reasoning and Writing. The essay portion is optional however. You may now guess on the exam without any penalty. The exam may now be taken as a computer based version as well.

The English section is a 45-minute, 75 question section.
The Math section is a 60-minute, 60 question section.
The Reading section is a 35-minute, 40 question section.
The Science section is a 35-minute, 40 question section.
The optional Writing section is 40-minute, 1 essay section.
Totaling 215 questions and (215 minutes) 3 hours and 35 minutes of examination time.

Should you take the SAT or ACT?

In a nutshell, if you prefer more time per question, the SAT may be best for you. If you enjoy a science section, then the ACT may be best for you. We recommend taking a practice ACT and SAT exam and based on your scoring, we can help you determine which test to move forward with. Our exam experts have accumulated years of exam preparation material to provide you with an effective tutoring session. Our practice exams will give you a true feel for the most updated ACT exam. Our tutors have ranked highly in English, Math, Reading, Science and Writing, so you know that you will only be matched with the best. Call us now for a diagnostic — our authentic advice will put you in the direction of success.
