Natalay

I have been working in the classroom since 2007 and tutoring English since 2012. I have helped many different students improve their grades, raise their standardized test scores, and get into college.

My teaching style is student-centered, meaning I help you build on your existing strengths to reach your full potential. I have taught students across the board — other teachers, college applicants, honors students, students who struggle with their English work, and English Language Learners — to write with clarity and precision in a style they can use through college and beyond. I know that with practice comes improvement. I provide the guidance that makes your writing improve by leaps and bounds with each try.

I also teach critical reading comprehension skills. Understanding what you read is one of the most important skills you can have as a student, and the reading skills you develop in English class can help you improve your understanding of every subject. Another thing I focus on is helping students improve their vocabulary, so they can develop a deeper understanding of texts, write with greater fluency, and ace those standardized tests!

I am a second-generation writer and educator from Los Angeles with a BA from UC-Berkeley in Social Studies and an MA from Claremont Graduate University in Arts Management. Throughout my high-caliber education, I have especially focused on becoming an amazing writer because I love the English language! Beyond having a “natural sense” of how the language works, I have studied writing and grammar at the post-collegiate level and continue to work as a professional writer. I fell in love with writing by reading a lot during my childhood, and reading continues to be one of my favorite hobbies.

It’s been a long time since I took the SAT, and the scoring has changed since then, but I scored in the 90th percentile in English on the GRE (the graduate school entrance exam.) I have also passed (scored on a pass/no pass basis) the English CSET, which is the exam you need to take to become a high school English teacher!

When I’m not tutoring, I work as a substitute teacher for K-12 and write content for a marketing company. In my free time, I like to eat healthily, do yoga, play with my Chihuahua, and watch CNN with my fiance.

I hope I get the chance to meet you soon!
