Lisa

Lisa earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Cape Town with a triple major in Politics, Public Policy, and Religious Studies. She has worked for a variety of tutoring agencies over the past couple of years, which have honed her teaching skills. These experiences awoke a deep passion in her, and she is currently aiming to make high school tutoring the focus of her career.

Lisa is a test prep professional. She’s been specifically trained in the SAT and ACT, and has the ability to teach all sections expertly – a highly prized quality in test prep tutors. Working in an official capacity since 2018, Lisa is well-versed in every subject these standardized tests measure. Her knowledge of mathematics ranges from algebra to trigonometry, and her reading abilities extend from data-heavy science passages to 18th century historical literature. She has increased SAT scores by up to 450 points, and swears by her individualized approach.

“Every kid has their own way of learning,” she says. “Once you tap into that, the possibilities are endless.”

Lisa even had a propensity for test-taking back in high school. She received a score of 4 on her AP Literature exam, as well as a 5 on her AP Psychology exam. She also got the full 3 credits for Calculus in her math placement exam for college. This versatility is the hallmark of her unique teaching ability.

Outside of test prep, Lisa’s hobbies are overwhelmingly nature-oriented. She takes care of a variety of indoor gardens as a professional horticulturalist, and loves to grow any plants she can get her hands on. When the weather is nice, she spends her free time hiking in the woods. Lisa loves to explore national parks both domestically and abroad, and has a keen appreciation for the environment.

Hobbies

My two favorite hobbies by far are hiking and traveling! I absolutely love exploring new places and seeing new sights. Nothing beats literally standing on a mountaintop! I'm always searching for new experiences and a new spot to pitch my tent. An old love of mine, though, is reading - there is a huge stack of books on my desk, and it's forever increasing in size. I will gladly consume anything fantasy or science fiction, but have also spent years reading classics (Frankenstein is my favorite!). A creative passion that I pursue on the side is music. I was trained to play classical piano since I was five, and have managed to translate this into electronic composition! I have a midi keyboard with thousands of sounds downloaded, and I perform in all sorts of places! My interests are very varied and I am always on the lookout for whatever excitement the world has to offer.
